Breathing In Clean Energy, Exhaling What No Longer Serves You

Before a sound bath begins, I often invite guests to close their eyes, soften their body, and begin with a simple visualization:

Breathe in clean, healing energy. Exhale negative, heavy, stale energy.

This gentle practice may seem simple, but it can create a powerful shift in how we enter a healing space.

Before the first bowl is played or the first vibration moves through the room, the breath becomes the doorway. It invites the body to slow down, the mind to quiet, and the spirit to become present.

Why Begin With the Breath?

The breath is one of the most natural tools we have for calming the body. When we are stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally heavy, our breathing often becomes shallow or rushed. We may not even notice we are holding tension in our chest, jaw, shoulders, or stomach.

Taking slow, intentional breaths gives the body a signal that it is safe to relax.

Breathing with awareness helps us pause. It brings us out of the busy thoughts of the day and into the present moment. It allows us to arrive fully — not just physically, but emotionally and energetically. Before a sound bath, this matters.

Many people come into a session carrying stress from work, grief from loss, worry from family responsibilities, or emotional exhaustion they have not had time to process. Beginning with breath gives them permission to set that weight down, even if only for a little while.

The Power of Visualization

Visualization, sometimes called guided imagery, is the practice of using the mind to picture something calming, peaceful, or healing. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, guided imagery is one form of relaxation technique, and relaxation practices are used to help bring about the body’s relaxation response. That response is often associated with slower breathing, reduced heart rate, and a calmer state in the body.

When we visualize breathing in clean energy, we are giving the mind something peaceful to focus on. Instead of thinking about the to-do list, the stress, the sadness, or the outside noise, the mind is invited to imagine light, freshness, peace, and renewal entering the body.

When we visualize exhaling negative or stale energy, we are giving ourselves permission to release. We are not forcing anything. We are not pretending life is perfect. We are simply creating an inner image of letting go.

This can feel especially supportive for people who struggle to quiet their thoughts. The mind often wants something to hold onto. Visualization gives it a soft place to rest.

Breathing In Clean Energy

When I invite guests to breathe in clean energy, I often imagine it as light.

It may feel like warm golden light, soft white light, fresh air, or a peaceful color moving gently through the body. Some people may imagine the breath entering the heart. Others may picture it filling the lungs, the belly, the spine, or the entire body.

This clean energy may represent peace. It may represent love.It may represent clarity. It may represent strength. It may represent comfort. It may represent divine support.

There is no wrong way to imagine it.

The purpose is not to make the visualization perfect. The purpose is to invite the body, mind, and spirit into a more peaceful state before receiving sound and vibration.

Exhaling Negative, Heavy, or Stale Energy

Just as important as breathing in is the exhale. The exhale becomes a release.

As guests breathe out, they may imagine stress leaving the body. They may picture grief softening, tension melting, or old energy being carried away. Some may imagine dark smoke, gray clouds, dust, or heaviness leaving with each breath.

This does not mean all pain disappears in one breath. Healing is not always instant, and emotions do not need to be rushed. But the exhale can become a small act of surrender.

With each breath out, we may gently say:

I release what I no longer need to carry. I let go of the energy that does not belong to me. I soften my body.I make space for peace.

Preparing the Body to Receive Sound

Sound baths are not just heard with the ears. They are felt through the body.

When we begin with intentional breathing and visualization, we help prepare the body to receive the sound more deeply. The breath begins to soften the nervous system. The visualization helps focus the mind. The body starts to settle. Then, as the bowls, chimes, gongs, drums, or other instruments begin, guests are already in a more open and receptive state. The sound can then move through a space that has already begun to quiet. This is why the opening breathwork can be such an important part of the session. It creates a bridge between the outside world and the sacred space of stillness.

A Simple Practice You Can Try at Home

You do not have to be in a sound bath to use this breathing technique. You can practice it anytime you feel overwhelmed, anxious, tired, or disconnected.

Try this:

Sit comfortably and place one hand over your heart and one hand over your belly.

Take a slow breath in through your nose and imagine clean, peaceful energy entering your body.

Pause gently.

Exhale through your mouth and imagine negative, stale, or heavy energy leaving your body.

Repeat this for three to five breaths.

As you breathe, allow your shoulders to soften. Let your jaw relax. Let your body know that in this moment, you are safe to pause.

You may wish to silently repeat:

Breathing in peace .Breathing out what no longer serves me.

Why This Practice Feels So Healing

This visualization works beautifully because it combines breath, intention, imagination, and release.

The breath helps calm the body. The visualization gives the mind a peaceful focus. The intention gives meaning to the practice. The exhale gives the spirit permission to let go.

Together, these create a beautiful opening for healing. It is a reminder that we are not powerless over the energy we carry. We can pause. We can breathe. We can become aware. We can choose what we invite in and what we are ready to release.

Entering the Sound Bath With Intention

Beginning a sound bath with this breathing visualization helps guests become active participants in their own healing. They are not simply lying down and listening. They are choosing to arrive, receive, and release. The breath becomes the first instrument.

Before the bowls sing, before the chimes shimmer, before the vibration fills the room, the breath begins the healing. Breathe in clean energy. Exhale what feels heavy. Make space for peace. Allow the sound to meet you there.

At Infinite Sound & Vibration Holistic Healing, each sound bath begins with the invitation to pause, breathe, and return to yourself. Sometimes the simplest breath can become the beginning of a beautiful release.
